Gmail Aliases Take Charge Of Your Inbox
Email has become after your name the second most likely way of identifying you indeed you could are that it has become a better identifier than your name. Even in a group of 1000 people it is possible that two people have the same name. However, no database for managing anything of any consequence will allow two people to have the same email address. One will need a different email.
Does that mean having multiple email accounts?
It could do or there is another option with Gmail.
Suppose you have one Gmail account, but you would like to segment / filter the emails being sent or received.
You could create several more email accounts or you could do this.
Example
Your email account is John.Doe@gmail.com
You decide you want three email addresses to manage your life.
- One for work
- One for a soccer team you play in
- One for golf
These Notes Cover How To Create More Email Addresses From One Account
Login in to your Gmail account go to Gmail > Gear Icon > All Settings > Accounts and import > add another email address
What Is The Benefit?
By labelling emails with different versions by category / subject type you can then apply a filter to your emails so all the ones relating to a particular subject end up in that folder.
Ingredients To Make This Work
You will have to set up:-
1. 2-Factor authentication
2. Generated a 16 digit password – which is different to the password you created when you set up the account. The 16 digit password is all lowercase and Google generates this for you and you must record it.
Notepad could be a good place to record this it comes in 4 blocks of 4 which you then have to extract / close up the spaces to make it a 16-digits in one block. This password cannot be recovered if you lose it. If you do lose it you have to delete it and create a new one. You also need to give it a name. Should you have more than one App Password.
The two-factor authentication is typically linked to your mobile phone number.
