In the Chinese city of Shenzhen – they have 16,000 electric buses. All the buses are electric. The city management system knows the following:-
- Where the buses and taxis’s are
- Distance travelled each day by the buses is shown 1,014,866km in one day.
- Number of passengers in one day 1,182,876
A huge contrast to the West Midlands in the UK where the management of the local bus company rely upon where theoretically a bus should be at any moment in time. “Management thinker Peter Drucker is often quoted as saying that “you can’t manage what you can’t measure.” Drucker means that you can’t know whether or not you are successful unless success is defined and tracked.”
More people might consider using public transport in the UK if it was better managed. A fact lost on politicians, and bus operators.
