Aireborough Historical Society

Aireborough Historical Society have been a valued client since 2012 when they expressed a desire to have a website to reach a much wider audience. Of the several hundred countries which make up the world the website stats show that they have reached just about every country in the world.

At the time Microsoft and their .aspx format was popular and I was using that to build websites but in recent years it has become very obvious that WordPress is the platform most professional website designers have gravitated to. 43.5% of all websites in 2024 use WordPress and that number is going up every month.
Having built a website for the society using .aspx the dwindling support and escalating costs of hosting such a format meant that we needed to change to a format with a brighter future. A big salute to Jack Brayshaw who transformed virtually all the content to the new content management system. Jack also took the opportunity to consolidate and re-organise the content. At task which is easier when you have an existing website to view.

At the same time we took the opportunity to update the navigation. This website has over 2000 pages of content and that does mean that for instance the links on the home page to add and delete them is a matter of a couple of clicks.

Most of the content has been added by retired volunteers who had little to no experience of building websites but were enthusiastic learners. The key ingredient for adding the content is being able to use a keyboard and know how to file digital content. Which most people will do day in day out with their Word or Excel documents.

The challenging part is getting setup in the first place – but that is what I can sort out for you.
