Is AI Able To Think Creatively?- (Therefore, Can It Do Most Jobs?)

Gary Marcus on the Massive Problems Facing AI & LLM Scaling | The Real Eisman Playbook Episode 42

If You Like One Word Answers – No.

AI effectively is a huge memory.

Questions which have been asked – and answers which have been given.

If your question has been asked before, and an answer generated – then AI can provide you with an answer in just the same way once you could walk up to the ticket office and ask, “can I get a train from A to B?”

If your question has been asked, but there is no answer – then no AI cannot solve your issue. It is the wrong tool for the job, you need a human.

The other element which is critical is, once you have got your AI answer, you need to verify the answer. That probably means going to a relevant website and researching. However, there is a benefit at least you now know potentially what you are looking for. That is a help. If you do not know what you are looking for it is hard to find it.

If you do not have a website there is zero chance of your content being promoted in an AI answer. If your content is promoted then people will want to check it out further on your website. Conclusion a website is a big help in being discovered by AI. Google Analytics shows some sites are receiving traffic from AI answers.

What are AI Bots Looking For?

1. Questions with Answers – FAQs

2. Content which explains issues which people might face / have.

3. Expertise in a subject. Ironically AI is not looking for content written by AI. Essentially AI content is not created by an expert in a subject it is just a guess at what words might follow the previous words. This might appear like intelligence, but it is not, it is just predictive text on steroids.

4. Why do search engines like Google want to send users to content created by an expert? It would be very odd if Google wanted to send people to content created by someone who knew nothing about a subject.

5. What does this mean for people with a website? More words and examples of why you are an expert. Thus, reviews are very helpful. You might have noticed many companies how send you a link after they have done something hoping you will write a positive review which will demonstrate their expertise.

Clearly not all companies do this – especially those which have subcontracted their “customer service” overseas, but it can be a useful opportunity.

Who Is Winning The AI Race To Create Something Which Is Actually Useful For Users?

Gemini from Google is rapidly becoming a favourite of many people.

The Utility Leader: Google (Gemini)

Google is arguably winning the integration race. By embedding Gemini directly into the “plumbing” of the internet—Gmail, Docs, Search, and Android—they have achieved the highest volume of utility.

The Edge: They own the full stack (chips, data, and apps), making Gemini the most “present” AI for the average person.

Why it’s useful: Features like NotebookLM (which turns messy notes into deep-dive podcasts/study guides) and AI Overviews in Search have moved from experimental to standard.

ChatGPT is a source of website traffic for some sites.

Perplexity is another AI research engine which is worth a try however they want $20 a month to do what Gemini does for me included in my email subscription.

40% of Kids Can’t Read and Teachers Are Quitting

AI regurgitates the past. That might have only happened a few days ago, probably months but for most humans our job is to look to the future. Recording what happened in the past might have some benefits, but what will be required tomorrow has much more value.

The ability to evaluate information as to:-

  • Is it accurate
  • Relevant
  • Can it be verified

It it is not all three then how can you make decisions based on that information from AI? At this point you will want to dive in and start conducting your own research. What AI can generate are the bases for your research. This can massively speed up that process, giving you access to information from around the world.
