Walking One Of Life’s Pleasures

One of the great pleasures in life is walking in beautiful scenery. The challenge comes – where to go. Frequently everyone goes to the equivalent of “Blackpool” but with a little effort one can find many interesting walks.
Paul Beal has created a website which showcases a wide selection of walks in the North of England focusing on the Lake District and “God’s own country” – Yorkshire. If you are looking for inspiration for where to walk, this is a great resource.
Links Are Important and Most Small Businesses / Organisations Ignore Them…
Chances are that you click on links on the internet every day which take you from one page to another, and you do not really think about them.
If your website had more links to it from quality (real websites, not one’s setup to create links to other websites), the result, your site would come up higher in Google search results than you do at present. Most websites do not have many links to them, and they do not link to other websites.
Google knows which websites link to yours and that can be useful. TBH most website owners do not make much of an effort to link to others. I guess if you own a B and B do you want to link to the local pub, they might also rent out rooms for B and B. However, you could swap that argument round and say we are 100 yards from a lovely pub and if you stay with us, you will not have to put up with any late night noise. Whatever.
There could be attractions in the area which you want to give a shoutout to. Stay with us and you can visit…
Some of those attractions might acknowledge that to visit them you need to stop over – because you are miles from anywhere. Links are referrals. If the local (whatever) is no good then you are not going to want to link to that, but assuming there are good reasons to visit an area give them a shoutout. In turn, you might point out to others in your area that you have given them a plug and ask for them to return the favour.
Can I tell You Who Your Competitors Have Links From?
Absolutely – Google only tell you who you have links from, but I can tell you who your competitors have links from.
If you want to know more please get in touch.
How can you work links to other websites into your website without it looking very contrived?
A blog is the obvious answer – not every day, but perhaps once a month, or maybe twice, you could take a photo or two and write something and insert a link to that.
The above picture is Kirkcudbright Golf Club. Where my friends and I had a lovely game of golf when the other local golf clubs had been flooded due a storm. Miles from most of the UK, but well worth a trip if you are ever in that part of Scotland.
You could link to someone on Facebook. Does not work as well as links from Facebook are of less value than other websites.
Most people do not try to find and generate links. It is not easy, but like anything if you do not try the result will be for certain no-one will link to you.
If you link to others you will grow your presence. If most website got 10 links in a year that for many would increase their number from one or two to 12 or more.
Linking to the BBC, the chances of a link back from the BBC is pretty low, but maybe you have a local news website. They might link back to you. To generate links you need content. You do not have to have discovered penicillin. You could write about local walks, pubs, places to see, sporting options in the area. Keep it positive and upbeat.
