How To Avoid A Post Office Debacle

What lessons could and should be learned from the Post Office debacle?

These two YouTube videos outline what would have happened if the project had been run following guidelines which have been created over the many years of writing software.

This like many “accidents” turns out to have been a crash looking for a location to happen.

For me this should be mandatory for anyone specifying a large complex process run on any computer system.

I doubt if anyone in Government / politics will take anything of value away from the Horizon scandal and the problems which were built into the software from the very beginning.

Why Do Not Companies Like Google Have These Sorts Of Problems?

I have read that companies such as Google if you join as a software writer, the first thing which happens, and this training might take up to 6-months is, they teach you the house style. So that when you write the software, if you are not about, and it needs amending, updating etc. anyone else should be able to go in and see what has been written and edit it.

That was not what happened with Horizon, with obvious consequences for the Sub-Post Masters.
