The end
Whilst Tim has a great writing style – this text bears little relation to what did happen which was far more dramatic.
At 2.38am Monday 5th October we had extracted ourselves from a forest and were on hard ground, a Forestry Commission road. The last track was only going to take us half-an hour. It took 13 hours to go about 1-mile. At that point Tim declared that the expedition was over. From the back of his Land Rover he produced a T shirt for each of us (Design credit Carl Drake). We gave him a tenner and he gave us a T shirt and a certificate.
Two items which I have to this day.
7 Land Rovers had set off on day one by the evening of day one, 3 teams and declared this was too tough for them and were going home. One of those were two ex-army guys who commented they had not been put through anything like Tim’s and James’s route in all their time in the army.
James Rudd was a great friend to all that knew him. For me it feels like I have lost a brother.
RIP James.
