Back-Chat.org.uk

Carlo had an ambition to create an aural archive of everyday folk. Not celebrities, not the people you see on popular chat shows plugging their latest book. What was amazing is Carlo at the start of the project had no idea how to do this. However, that was simply a learning opportunity.
My role was to help come up with the

  • Domain name
  • Website design
  • Functionality
  • How the sound recordings would play
  • Cutting out all the round pictures

.
Carlo added most of the content once I had taught him to do that.
One of the things Carlo wanted was to be able to select content by category.
The challenge with that is until you have some content it is not that obvious how you can categories the content.
The other big objective was to find a permanent home for the content. I looked at all-sorts of storage options which would be good for 75-years or more.
However, Yorkshire Archive has proven to be the best answer for the content. The audio was recorded in high fidelity creating relatively large files.
The home page has all roughly 100 narrators listed.
The page Avro focuses on the 8 people who spoke about Avro which was in the 1930’s, Second World War one of the largest factories in Europe making bombers for the RAF.
If you have a project with lots of content I can help you organise it.
